Since the company was set up at the beginning of 2009 Boardskillz has become synonymous with Stand Up Paddle Boarding and Windsurfing.
In terms of tuition, our aim has been to provide beginners and intermediates of either sport with a structured, safe and fun learning environment to minimise frustration and maximise progress. Unlike many static watersports operations we have a suitably ‘pimped out’ vehicle that accommodates all the necessary equipment which means we can take either activity to a variety of breathtaking locations including Tynemouth, South Shields, Northumberland and The Lake District amongst a host of others.
Alongside offering beginner and intermediate instruction, Boardskillz also provide advanced coaching for those really wanting to push the envelope! The company’s founder (Joe Thwaites) is regarded by many as one of the UK’s best paddle board instructors. If you’ve been down to Tynemouth’s beautiful, award-winning Longsands Beach in 2009 you’ve probably seen Joe dialling in some impressive moves or imparting his knowledge to one of our popular weekend-based Taster Session groups.If you’re a motivated windsurfer looking to hone those illusive carve gybes, vulcans and forward loops we recommend you check out our Pro Windsurfing Clinics which normally take place on a quarterly basis.
Boardskillz is proud to announce that we'll have one of the largest stand up paddle board demo fleets in the UK for this season.We'll be carrying a variety of key brands' shapes at various price points, so once you've come and learned how to paddle you can compare and contrast before making that first important purchase.
On the windsurfing side, we are all about providing the best products at key price points. We've been consumers so understand how frustrating it is when you're at the beginner or intermediate stages and don't know which way to jump. It's out aim to guide you through the marketing mumbo jumbo and tailor the best kit to your current level and medium term ambitions.

Paddle Boarding
Boardskillz are proud to pioneer the latest in alternative fitness. Paddle Fit has been designed to concentrate on conditioning core muscle groups, improving posture and balance whilst simultaneously combating stress, often associated with sedentary occupations.
SUPer Saver is our cost-effective way for a family of four (or two adults and two children) to experience Stand Up Paddle Boarding.
SUP Race Series has been designed to introduce an element of healthy competition to the local paddle boarding scene. Don't worry if you don't have state of the art specialist kit, we have boards available to hire for training sessions and race events, all you need is water confidence and a competitive spirit and you can get involved.
Destination Paddles are also new for 2010. If you’re looking for a unique and exhilarating group activity centred around nature in awe-inspiring locations these are simply too good to miss!
Tynemouth SUP Wave Classic is still under development but the intention is run a wave event towards the end of the summer, offering surfers and new converts from around the region the opportunity to compete for prizes.
Windsurfing
Andy 'Bubble' Chambers Pro Clinics will be a regular feature for 2010. Andy and Colin are hoping to be back to pass on those incisive tips Easter Weekend. Get in touch to book your place ASAP as places are being snapped up fast!!
Cape Verde & Dahab Trips are being trialled this season. We know the operators well and should be able to offer a discounted rate based on a decent size group. Alongside being spoiled for sunshine and wind in either location, you'll have Boardskillz instructors at hand to provide those key tips to reinforce what the Pro's have to say.
