SUP Stand Up
Paddle Boarding is officially the fastest growing board sport in the world! From
Thailand to New York people from all walks of life are coming together to enjoy SUP. The great thing about
the sport is that it's accessible to anyone. All you need is water confidence, a few basic pointers and you're away!! Our beginner boards are nice and wide and super bouyant making it possible
for virtually anyone to get stood up on their first attempt. 90% of our beginners are stood up in the first 20
mins and have normally caught their first wave by the end of the taster session.
Unlike many other watersports you don't have to rely on the weather. If it's
flat and there's no wind go for a cruise down the river or along the coast, if there's some surf hit your local break...you'll
never be left sitting on a beach waiting for mother nature to produce the goods!
SUP's biggest growth market has been with flat water users; families taking boards on camping
trips, recreational users meandering down rivers or along the coastline at their leisure and fitness fans recognising
the core muscle workout benefits of regular SUP. The latter has lead to numerous celebrities taking up the sport, including
the likes of Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Schweisinger.
Despite being great fun and superb exercise on flat water, SUP hasn't forgotten is surfing roots.
We're now seeing short boarders using SUPs as a fun alternative
for smaller days. Many longboarders are now only SUPing as the paddle makes getting out back and turning that
much easier. Board designs are constantly evolving and we're now seeing shorter SUPs with thruster set ups and swallow
tails. You only need to check out You Tube to see the likes of Laird Hamilton & Co riding some of the world's biggest
waves on SUPs giving the sport some well deserved kudos.
SUP is what you want it to be. Having meandered,
paddled for fitness and surfed varying sized waves I have to say each has it's own pull. On a personal note, I have lost a
few pounds, seen some amazing countryside and coastline from an elevated vantage point and now have the confidence to
drop in on monster waves I'd never have been brave enough to tackle on my surfboard.

Hire We're encouraging people to book taster sessions, which last a couple of hours. We provide
all the kit, give people a few basic pointers to get them going and then it's onto the water for their first session.
Once we're confident that you're not a danger to yourselves, our kit and other water users, boards and suits can be hired
without supervision. We have a fleet of Starboard SUPs, including 12' cruisers, 11'2'' ultimate blends, 10' whoppers
and 9'8'' elements, providing a variety of shapes for people to demo. We provide impartial sales advice and can
source kit from a variety of suppliers including Gong, Walden & NSP with a 24hr turn around in most cases. We
currently have some excellent deals on 09 boards as the 2010 boards will be released in the Autumn.

Windsurfing Despite being around for over 30yrs windsurfing is still one of the most exhilerating sports. Whether you're
all about going fast, want to carve silky lines on the wave face or fancy dialling in those impressive
freestyle moves, windsurfing has something for everyone. Boardskillz has its roots in windsurfing. We
have sailed in some of the world's most challenging locations and are therefore well placed to offer expert tuition and
impartial new and used equipment advice. In terms of tuition, we specialise in fast-track beginner courses and
improver clinics. We provide all the equipment and work with
clients on either an individual basis or two clients to one instructor as we believe this produces the best results. We can tailor
something to most peoples requirements, whether they're looking to take their first steps into the sport, take a refresher
before a holiday, crack the harness and straps or that ever ellusive carve gybe. Unlike many other schools we work
around the weather and will run clinics on evenings, early mornings as well as at the weekends. We teach at a number
of locations in and around newcastle and can cater for flat water and coastal interest. Our equipment is designed to make the learning process easy, with
wide style boards and small sails being our preference. Our instructors have formal windsurfing qualifications alongside first
aid training and have all been CRB checked. We focus on teaching core skills and have most people sailing across the
wind and turning round after just a couple of sessions. For more information
on our beginner courses or bespoke clinics call Joe on 0191 2581499 or drop him an email through our contact form.
